In Short…

Rethink35 is a grassroots movement opposing the planned I-35 highway expansion plan in central Austin. They believe in people's freedom for movement, connection, and self-termination.

Aligning Rethink35's Digital Presence with Its Mission

As a volunteer-led movement, Rethink35's power hinges on inciting people to take actions. We need people to write letters to elected officials, show up to protests, and speak in front of the city council. Our newsletter and social media must create clear, moving, and action-driven messages that ignite actions.

Taking a Page From Marketing

The Hierarchy of Effects Model theorizes that people must become aware and understand a product before they can like or even decide to purchase it. Awareness and knowledge come before action. The theory still holds when it comes to advocacy. Afterall, how can we get people to show up, speak up, or donate if they before they understand an issue?

Key question

How can we frame complex concepts as simple yet relatable ideas that ignite actions?

That's the key question that I try to answer with every design projects I tackle at Rethink35, whether it's a social media campaign or information sheets for city council members.

Eye-Catching, Straightforward, and Action-Oriented Social Media Contents

For accounts of similar size, the median Instagram engagement rate is 4.0% and median reach per post is 463. This carousel I made outperformed in reach and engagement rate compared to the medians AND other posts from the account.
